International auction house Christie’s sells Egyptian Artifacts online

CAIRO – 4 April 2017: Seven Ancient Egyptian artifacts and others dating back to the Greco-Roman and Ottoman periods in Egypt will be auctioned by Christie’s Auction House from April 25-27, the auction house’s website announced April 3, Youm7 reported.

The auctions are part of Christie’s “Ancient Antiquities” auctions, which exclusively target upscale buyers from around the world. The auctions are set to take place at Rockefeller Center in New York and King Street in London.

The artifacts available in the auction include varieties of historical versions of the Holy Quran as well as Greco-Roman mummy masks, Ancient Egyptian mummy linens, and classical paintings.

The estimate of price ranges of the auctions start from $5,000 to $70,000.

, Christie’s sold 76 ancient Egyptian artifacts for an estimated $315,000 in 2014.

During the aftermath of January 25 Revolution there was a spike in the smuggling of Egyptian antiquities to other countries. Many were sold in international auctions similar to Christie’s.
