Cairo - 3 April 2017: Originally from Japan, cosplay – the act of dressing up as a character from a film, book, or video game – has taken the world by storm for decades. Now, Egypt is hosting its first

Geek Fictions Convention

on Saturday, April 8 at Smart Village.

Geek Fictions Convention is happening as part of Maker Faire Cairo, an annual technology convention organized by Egyptian digital facility Fab Lab in collaboration with U.S Embassy in Cairo and comic company Big Geeks.

Egypt’s first ‘geek convention’ aims to encourage Egyptians to embrace their geeky side through cosplay.

EGYcon, the Egyptian version of Comic-Con, was held three years in a row, but was limited to dressing up in costumes. The Geek Fictions Convention applies the idea of EGYcon but on a more influential base, bringing international cosplayers as hosts, offering workshops to the guests and having contest for best dressed in character as well as best created prop.

Tickets range fromEPG 75 – EPG 240 and are available at
