Hurghada Airport thwarts smuggling of 102 artifacts

CAIRO – 9 December 2017: The Ministry of Antiquates successfully thwarted smuggling attempt of 102 artifacts at Hurghada Airport on Friday, according to a press statement issued by the Ministry of Antiquities.

The seized artifacts date back to different eras including Greek, Roman and Ottoman periods, in addition to many antiquates which belong to Egyptian Jewish families.

They include more than 80 historic coins, in addition to five stone plates with Hebrew texts.

The seized artifacts will be exhibited in different museums such as the Museum of Islamic Art, the Egyptian Museum and the Manial Palace Museum.

Recently, the Egyptian Tourism and Antiquities Police managed to thwart the theft of artifacts in different areas in Egypt including Assiut.
