CAIRO – 7 December 2017: The disturbing 1972 underground film "The Other Side of The Underneath" by British director Jane Arden will screen at Cimatheque - Alternative Film Centre on Sunday, December 10 and Tuesday, December 12.

This bizarre avant-garde art-film focuses on a group of women in a therapy session for various psychological issues, including one who is schizophrenic. Through the use of disturbing imagery and music, the film’s disjoined narrative is fully invocative of its characters' mental struggles, and explores the nature of madness and its complex relationship to society, feminist thought and sexuality. It is a harrowing study of the systematic failings that plague both the mentally ill and women of all backgrounds.

Until recently, the film had been feared lost forever, though in 2008 the British Film Institute was able to re-release it.
