CAIRO – 26 November 2017: Sudanese-South African documentary film “Beats of the Antonov” will screen at Netherlands-flemish Institute in Cairo Cinema on November 29.

Directed and written by Hajooj Kuka, the film revolves around the impact of the civil war in Sudan between northern citizens and southern tribes.

The film explores how displaced families employ their native culture music and dances to ease their pain.

Filmed in just 18 months and released in 2014, “Beats of the Antonov” captures real life experiences created from tragedy and hope.

“Beats of Antonov” participated in various festivals in 2014 and 2015 such as Luxor African Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, and San Francisco International Film Festival.

It won the Grand Nile Prize for Best Documentary at Luxor African Film Festival, and the Best Documentary Award and Arterial Network’s Artwatch Africa Award for Freedom of Expression at Durban International Film Festival.
