CAIRO – 21 November 2017: Cairo International Film Festival’s management decorated the red carpet with Egyptian cinema icons’ photos.

Roushdy Abaza, Soaad Hosny, Mary Mounib, Shadia, Omar el-Sherif and other prominent Egyptian actors’ photos are now highlighting the celebrities’ gangway in Al-Manara Conferences’ Palace.

These notable group of Egyptian stars represent and symbolize the Egyptian cinema. The festival management decided to dedicate this edition to the heartthrob Shadia. Of the icons decorating the red carpet, Soaad Hosny was known as the Cinderella of the Egyptian cinema and is one of the most influential actresses in the Middle East and the Arab World.

El-Sherif, on the other hand, started his career in Egypt in the 1950s, but is best known for his appearances in both British and American cinema. His repertoire includes “Lawrence of Arabia”, “Doctor Zhivago”, and “Funny Girl”. El-Sherif was nominated for an Academy Award.

In a few minutes, the 39th CIFF will kick off and run till November 30. CIFF’s management chose to screen the American movie “The Mountain Between Us,” starring Kate Winslet and Idris Elba, at the opening ceremony of the festival.

The festival’s management selected acclaimed Egyptian actress Youssra as this year’s honorary president at the festival. The festival will screen 175 films from 53 countries.


Renowned comedian Samir Ghanem is set to receive the Faten Hamama Honorary and Excellence Award, the first comedic actor to receive the award.


The festival’s management decided to grant this year’s Faten Hamama Honorary Award to famed Egyptian-Tunisian actress Hend Sabry and well-known Egyptian actor Maged el Kedwany.
