Sharjah book fair elects Mohamed Saber as ‘Cultural Personality’

CAIRO – 21 October 2017: The Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) has elected Dr. Mohamed Saber Ibrahim Arab, Egypt’s former minister of culture, as its “Cultural Personality of the Year”.

He was chosen for the title due to his esteemed contributions to the Arabic literature and cultural scene, as well as his great help in developing the cultural scene in Egypt and enhancing the country’s relationship with various cultural institutions. Dr. Arab has called for the preservation and upholding of Arabic culture, especially in the light of modern challenges.

Dr. Arab’s insightful critiques of issues currently plaguing the Arab world utilize careful consideration of history and literature. Speaking to the WAM Emirates News Agency, Ahmed Al Ameri, chairman of the Sharjah Book Authority, remarked that the choice would honor Dr. Arab’s long and influential career.

“Dr. Arab is an inspiring cultural personality who enjoys a very high regard in the Arabic cultural arena. His career has seen him support intellectuals, encourage researchers and contribute to building a generation of educated people,” Al Ameri stated. He also added that Dr. Arab was a longtime contributor to the SIBF.
