CAIRO – 18October 2017: Sufi band "Rawhanyat" will be staging El-Goumherya Theater in Cairo to display a collection of their Sufi recitals on Friday.

Conducted by maestro Alaa Abdel Salam, the band will play several religious songs created by famous composers including Abdel Rahaman Ali, Doaa Amin and Sayed Mekkawy among others, according to a released statement by Cairo Opera House.

The aims of the band include presenting harmony and beauty through literary expression and Sufism melodies.

The Sufi art has been displayed also at Cairo Contemporary Dance Center (CCDC) which held on October 6,7 a workshop with Ziya Azazi named “Dervish in Progress,” inspired by the traditional whirling dervish techniques, with a mix of tango and contemporary dance.

This workshop allowed participants to push their limits by spinning individually and in groups, allowing them to explore their ability to gain control of their bodies while moving. The workshop aimed to develop one’s physical, emotional and mental awareness though whirling.
