CAIRO – 15 October 2017: Minister of Culture Helmy El Nemnem honored Mourad Wahba, professor of philosophy at Ain Shams University, during a ceremony on Sunday.

After the honor, four panel discussions were held and attended by the political thinker Mostafa El-Feki.

At the closing meeting led by the Secretary-General of the Council, Dr. Hatem Rabie, Wahba will deliver a speech at 4 p.m.

Wahba is an advocate of secularism, democratic governance and human development, and a strong believer in international development cooperation criticizing fundamentalism and interfaith dialogue.

He has written several books on culture, modernity, and religious belief including, the Backwardness Germ, Philosophy of Creativity and Fundamentalism and Secularism.

He was appointed by the United Nations secretary general Ban Ki-moon in 2016 to the position of assistant administrator and director of the regional bureau for Arab States at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

He has been the deputy special representative of the secretary general, resident coordinator, humanitarian coordinator and UNDP resident representative in Haiti since 2015.
