CAIRO – 5 October 2017: In the wake of the

Las Vegas massacre

, America’s worst mass shooting in modern history, Netflix has seen fit to pull its panel for "The Punisher," an upcoming series based on the Marvel character.

The news comes from a joint statement issued both by Marvel Comics and Netflix, wherein they stated that in light of the recent tragedy, "it wouldn’t be appropriate for Marvel’s 'The Punisher' to participate in New York Comic Con."

Starring "Walking Dead’s" Jon Bernthal as the vigilante Frank Castle, who dons the title of "The Punisher" after the death of his family, the Netflix series is the latest in a long line of adaptations of the controversial Marvel anti-hero, who is well-known for his frequent gun use and brutal sense of justice.

The launch date for the 13-episode Netflix series has not yet been announced.
