CAIRO – 3 October 2017: The Supreme Council of Culture declared applications open for the Nile Prize and the State Appreciation and Encouragement Awards starting from October 1 to December 31.

The award will be available in different fields such as arts, literature, social, economic, legal and sciences. The awards are categorized in four divisions: the Encouragement Award, the Excellency Award, the Appreciation Award and the Nile Award which is the highest of them all. The prizes are worth LE 1,000 ($56.67) and come in the form of a silver medal.

To register for this award, applicants should not be over 40 years old and must have not won the award before, the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Culture Hatem Rabie said.

The State Awards were launched in 1958 and have only been cancelled once, in 1967, during the Six Day War between Egypt and Israel, according to Ahram Weekly.
