CAIRO – 1 October 2017: The Palestinian Drama film “Atash” [Thrill] will screen at Cimatheque on October 1 and October 3.

The movie chronicles the plight of a family after escaping a scandal.

After fleeing the scandal involving his older daughter, Gamila, Abu Shukri, a middle-aged Palestinian man, moved his wife and children to a remote abandoned Israeli military outpost.

The family ekes out a living by illegally cutting down wood from a nearby forest, and burning it to make charcoal.

Against the harsh and barren landscape, the family’s inner power dynamic begins to shift, and patriarchal issues meld into larger problems of occupation and political trauma.

The movie is directed and written by Tawfik Abu Wael, and was released in 2004. It stars Hussein Yassin Mahajne, Amal Bweerat, and Ruba Blal.

It is one of the leading films that is produced by Palestine. It was won the FIPRESCI Prize at Cannes Film Festival
