CAIRO – 16 September 2017: The U.S. Embassy in Cairo, in partnership with the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, will bring New York based company Theater Mitu to the upcoming Cairo International Festival of Contemporary and Experimental Theatre (CifCet), the American Embassy press release stated on Friday.

Theater Mitu will be performing on September 27 and 28 at 8:00 p.m. at the El Hanager Theatre. Each performance is free and attendees are encouraged to appear one hour before the event is set to begin, the statement added.

Theater Mitu first traveled to Egypt in 2010 to participate in that year’s CifCet and returned in 2016 to present its acclaimed production of “Juárez: A Documentary Mythology.” The company has extensive experience in the Middle East and North Africa, including a six-year residency at New York University in Abu Dhabi, the statement reported.

Founded in 1997, Theater Mitu has earned a wide reputation as an adventuresome and dynamic ensemble of artists.

Under the leadership of artistic director Rubén Polendo, the Company is dedicated to transliterating a wide variety of performance traditions, exploring theatrical form, and supporting the creative growth of its members, who are at the creative core of each piece the Company produces, Theater Mitu Facebook page stated.

The Ministry of Culture is also featuring two other American theater companies during CifCet: Performance Space 122 performing “Go Forth” at the El Ghad Theatre in El Aguza on September 27 and 28 at 6:00 p.m., and Laguardia Performing Arts Center presenting performances of “Privatopia” at the Miami Theatre on Talaat Harb Street on September 23 and 24 at 10 p.m., the statement mentioned.
