CAIRO – 6 September 2017: The Breaking Walls Festival will host the REN.Woman performance directed by Julia Cheng on September 14 and 15 at 10 p.m. and 8 p.m. respectively.

REN.Women is a kind of contemporary dance reflecting the poetic discourse about space, restriction and liberation. It will be performed by Nicole Roerick, Nagham Salah Othman, Sherin Hegazy, and Amany Atef.

The word Ren in ancient Chinese philosophy is one of the components of the human soul. In Ancient Egyptian culture Ren helps human beings find collective balance in their life through various obstacles.

Cheng is a dance artist and creative director of the House of Absolute, specialized in movement and cross-art form work. Her recent collaborations include projects with fashion designer Erkan Coruh, film-maker Christel Chaudet, artist Laila Muraywid, and painter Nagham Hodaifa. She was choreographing for performance projects, such as Breaking Convention 2016 at Sadler’s Wells and Project New Earth at the South Bank Centre.

Breaking Walls Festival will be held from September 7 to September 17 and will include dance, theatre, and art. The festival program goes beyond the conventional by bringing performances and theatrical experiences closer to the people. The performances included in the festival program are presented by a diverse pool of international and Egyptian artists.
