CAIRO- 31 August, 2017: The 2015 film “What Happened, Miss Simone?” is a biographical documentary about American singer, songwriter and pianist Nina Simone (1933-2003). She was a gifted and prolific artist who worked on a wide array of musical genres, like classical, jazz, pop, blues, folk and R&B.

The film is about both her career and her personal life. It contains rare archival footage that was never released before, as well as interviews with Simone's daughter and friends. Besides her musical career, the film sheds light on her activism during the civil rights era in the 1960s.

“What Happened, Miss Simone?” was the opening film of the Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for an Oscar. It also won a number of prestigious awards, including the Primetime Emmy Awards, under the category of “Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special”; the Black Film Critics Circle Awards, under the category of “Best Documentary”; and the Black Reel Awards, under the category of “Outstanding Documentary”.
This is an interesting, inspiring and entertaining film about the rise and fall of an artist.
