CAIRO – 27 August 2017: Three plays will represent Egypt in the Cairo International Festival for Contemporary & Experimental Theatre which are: ‘The Day They Killed Singing, ‘The Bridge’ and ‘Shamman’.

‘The Day They Killed Singing and ‘The Bridge’ will definitely participate as they both won awards in the Egyptian National Theatre Festival in its past round, which means they will be chosen directly in the Cairo International Festival for Contemporary & Experimental Theatre.

‘The Day They Killed Singing’ play presents the struggle between two brothers in the quest for the cause of existence and the mystery of the universe. It examines the conflict between the spirit of tolerance and love on the one hand, and fanaticism and hatred on the other hand. The show is composed by Mahmoud Gamal and directed by Tamer Karam, starring Alaa Quqa, Yasser Sadek, Hamada Shousha, Tarek Sabri, Mohamed Nasser, and Hind Abdel Halim. ‘The Day They Killed Singing’ opened on March 30 and has won the first place prize at the 10th edition of the National Festival of Egyptian Theatre.

It is worth mentioning that the Cairo International Festival for Contemporary & Experimental Theatre will kick off on September 19. The Festival launched earlier on its official Facebook page a promo stating that “Cairo is on track again.”
