CAIRO – 22 August 2017: The Egyptian stand-up comedian Hamza Bahaa will head a stand-up comedy workshop at Alwan organization on August 25.

As it is announced on the official page of the event, the comedians who want to join the workshop must pass the audition.

Bahaa is an outstanding stand-up comedian. He started his path two years ago and won third place in the Comedians Competition at Al Rihani Theatre.

He is one of the scriptwriters at El-Plateau show, which airs on Al- Nahar TV.

He wrote scripts for a number of ads such as the Samsung ads that are stared by Asser Yassin and Maged al-Kedwany.

He also performed on a number of stages such as Al-Hanager Theatre, and El Sawy Culture Wheel.

Stand-up Comedy in Egypt is considered one of the rising theatrical arts.

It took its early steps in 2007, and it flourished after the trending shows hosted by Ronnie Khalil.

The youth of Egypt were attracted to this art because it expresses their problems and thoughts in a black comedy setting.

Light comedy, satire, attraction, and impressive body language employment, and musicality in speech are the main tools of the comedian on stage.

A number of stand-up comedy competitions were held in El Sawy Culture Wheel, among other cultural venues, and in a number of universities.

‘Moga Stand Up’ was the first stand-up comedy TV Show, and was aired on Moga Comedy, a private-owned channel.

Ali Qandeel, and Walid Abo Magd and Alaa El Sheikh are considered the most known stand-up comedians in Egypt, in addition to a number of crews such as Comedino and Eight Karoo (Tamanya Karoo).

The concept of presenting stand-up comedy shows was widened to include satirical one man shows, such as Basem Youssef’s programs.

Researches see that the phenomena of stand-up comedy is a developed form from other socio-political critic theatrical arts such as El Aragoz (The Puppeteer) and comedic monologues. For example, the famous Egyptian monologist, Mahmoud Shokoko, used to be dressed as El Aragoz while performing.
