CAIRO - 14 August 2017: Medrar for Contemporary Art will be screening a collection of video art from Japanese video artists in the form of a documentary on Thursday, August 17.

The documentary is called ‘KIKAI DE MIRUKOTO’ or ‘Eye Machine/Seeing by Chance’ presents the oral history of early video artists in Japan. The documentary is directed by award- winning Japanese filmmaker Kentaro Taki.

In the late 1960s, the market was filled with video equipment allowing people to shoot images and moving objects instantly. This inspired many artists to experiment with the new medium. Through the documentary, the audience will examine the real meaning of video, the Latin word for ‘I see.’

It includes interviews with artists like Katsuhiro Yamaguchi, Toshio Matsumoto, Fujiko Nakaya, Takahiko Limura, Hakudo Kobayashi, Keigo Yamamoto, Ko Nakajima, Nobuhiro Kawanaka, Mako Idemitsu, Sakumi Hagiwara, and Kohei Ando amongst others.
