Acclaimed Media personality Ahmed Fayek, host of the TV program Egypt Can on DMC TV, said that the spread of the Hantavirus has become a major concern for many people, noting that the early stages of the virus resemble the beginnings of the coronavirus outbreak.
He said: “There are claims that many countries are unwilling to receive the ship carrying the virus for fear of its spread and in an attempt to identify patient zero. There are also many questions about whether this virus is alarming, and the answer is that, so far, there is no cause for concern.”
Fayek added: “The number of Hantavirus cases can still be counted on one hand. Patient zero was a 70-year-old Dutch scientist who died after visiting a place heavily infested with rats, where he contracted the virus.”
He continued: “Hantavirus is transmitted among rodents and through direct contact with them. Human-to-human transmission is extremely rare.”
