The spotlight was firmly on Mai El-Gheity as she made her Hollywood debut at the special screening of The Mummy in Hollywood. The event brought together an international cast, including Laia Costa, Hayat Kamille, May Calamawy, and Jack Reynor, alongside director Lee Cronin.

The screening marks the beginning of the film’s U.S. promotional rollout ahead of its April 16 release across 183 cinemas in 47 cities, including Dolby Laboratories venues, as part of the Halfway to Halloween campaign.

For El-Gheity, the moment signals a major step onto the international stage. The rising Egyptian star described the project as a milestone in her career, aligning her with a bold reimagining of the iconic “Mummy” legend. This new take leans into psychological horror, blending suspense and mystery with a strong focus on female-driven narratives and visually immersive storytelling.

In recent days, El-Gheity has shared behind-the-scenes moments with co-stars and Cronin, who teased the film’s darker tone, noting that while its characters may appear approachable, they lead audiences into deeply unsettling territory.

Far from a traditional adventure, The Mummy positions itself as a chilling psychological experience. The film marks a clear departure from earlier adaptations, offering a more intense and modern interpretation of the classic myth.

“When I decided to direct the film in 2024, I wanted to create something entirely different,” Cronin said. “This is not about revisiting the past. It’s about uncovering something ancient, something disturbing, and bringing it to life in a new way.”

Backed by major horror powerhouses including Blumhouse Productions, Atomic Monster, and New Line Cinema, the film signals a high-profile global release. It will debut in Egypt on April 16 alongside its international rollout across 55 countries.

At its core, the story follows the eerie return of a young girl who vanished in the desert years earlier, only to reappear inside an ancient sarcophagus. What begins as a miracle quickly spirals into terror, as her behavior reveals the presence of something far more sinister. As the mystery deepens, it becomes clear that the true horror lies not in the legend of the mummy, but in what came back with her.

With this role, El-Gheity takes a confident step into global cinema, positioning herself as one of the most promising Arab talents to watch on the international stage.
