Egyptian actor Bassem Samra shared his candid views on a number of young talents and industry practices during a recent appearance on Sahebat El Saada, offering both praise and constructive criticism for several prominent names in the Egyptian entertainment scene.
Samra highlighted the talent of actors Taha Desouky and Essam Omar, noting that both possess strong abilities and clear artistic tools that position them for significant success. However, he suggested that hesitation and fear of making mistakes may be limiting their full potential.
He said: “Taha is kind and genuine, and so is Essam. They’re talented and have good tools, but their issue is that they’re afraid. They don’t want to talk to people or appear on many shows out of fear of making mistakes or being misunderstood. But it’s okay to make mistakes, we all do, and that’s how we learn and grow. I’m betting on them and wish them all the best.”
Samra also commented on actor Ahmed Malek, stating that he needs greater focus and humility in his career, and should broaden his artistic range rather than repeatedly portraying similar “handsome young man” roles.
He added that Malek should “be more humble and focused, be more easygoing than that, and diversify his roles instead of limiting himself to playing the handsome young man.”
Turning to singer and actor Tamer Hosny, Samra praised his success but expressed reservations about his involvement in directing. He stressed the importance of collaboration and external perspective in creative work.
“Tamer Hosny is a big star in both singing and acting, but I’m not keen on him directing. Having a second perspective is extremely valuable,” Samra said.
He further explained that it is not ideal for one person to act, direct, and write all their work alone, noting that an outside critical eye is often necessary to refine artistic output. He concluded by wishing Hosny continued success, emphasizing his respect for his achievements and popularity.
