Egyptian Professor Dr. Mohamed El Alfy Makes History as First Egyptian President of the UK’s Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
In a landmark scientific achievement that adds to the legacy of Egypt in the medical sector abroad, the Egypt Can TV program on DMC channel announced the election of Egyptian professor Dr. Mohamed El Alfy as President of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, making him the first Egyptian to hold this prestigious position at one of the world’s most renowned medical institutions.
During an exclusive video interview on the program, Dr. El Alfy expressed his pride in representing Egypt in a strategic role responsible for regulating the profession, developing training curricula, and overseeing specialist examinations for ophthalmologists in the UK and worldwide.
El Alfy emphasized that this achievement is the result of purely Egyptian education. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University and completed his training at the Research Institute of Ophthalmology before moving to the United Kingdom around 15 years ago. He also holds a joint PhD between Beni Suef University and British and Swiss universities.
Dr. El Alfy also revealed the signing of a cooperation agreement with the Egyptian Armed Forces Medical Services to conduct the college’s fellowship exams at Kobri El Qobba Military Hospital in Cairo, opening new horizons for training and knowledge exchange between both sides.
Veteran TV host Ahmed Fayek described the achievement as “a great victory and a source of pride,” noting that an Egyptian under the age of 50 reaching the top of the medical field in Britain sends a powerful message about the global competitiveness of Egypt’s medical education system.
