Egyptian researcher Dr. Rabie Younes Abdel Fattah has achieved a major scientific milestone, winning the Premium Gold medal with honors at the 51st Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions for his innovation, “A Cancer Diagnostic Platform Using Nanochips.”

The innovation is based on an advanced medical platform that enables instant cancer detection using just a single drop of blood, in a process similar to home glucose testing devices.

During his appearance on the TV program “Egypt Can” on DMC, hosted by acclaimed TV host Ahmed Fayek, Dr. Rabie explained that the device uses a chip equipped with four sensors acting as “eyes” to detect four different tumor markers or proteins associated with breast cancer, ensuring high diagnostic accuracy.

The innovation aims to provide a simple, non-invasive alternative to traditional and complex tissue biopsy procedures, reducing patient anxiety and accelerating early detection.

Beyond diagnosis, the platform can also track how well a patient responds to treatment protocols, helping doctors make faster decisions on adjusting or changing therapies based on variations in tumor marker levels in the blood.

The researcher confirmed that the technology can be adapted for other types of cancers, as well as viruses and bacteria, by modifying the antibodies on the chip to match the targeted disease.

Ahmed Fayek praised the innovation, which emerged from Zewail City of Science and Technology and the National Research Centre, led by a research team of more than 20 scientists. He also noted that receiving a special commendation from the international jury places the project above standard gold medal distinctions.
