The Supreme Council for Media Regulation announced the report prepared by its Drama Committee, headed by film critic Magda Morris, reviewing the Ramadan 2026 season. The report provides a comprehensive evaluation of drama productions in line with content regulations and standards.
This comes as part of the council’s ongoing efforts, led by Khaled Abdelaziz, to develop the media landscape and elevate the Egyptian drama industry.
The report highlighted several positive aspects that enriched the drama scene, including the diversity of social issues addressed and the strengthened presence of women in key productions. This was evident in the widely discussed series Hekayet Narges, as well as Ard W Talab, Ein Sehreya, Had Aksa, Tawabea, Kan Ya Ma Kan, Ab W Laken, and El Loun El Azraq. The Palestinian cause was also prominently featured in Sohab El Ard, while national security awareness and the state’s efforts to maintain stability were portrayed in Ras El Afaa.
The season also saw a notable return to extensive outdoor filming, helping showcase Egyptian streets and national development projects.
In addition, several productions tackled themes of social inclusion, mental health, and representation of people with disabilities, including Tawabea, El Loun El Azraq, Ard W Talab, Hekayet Narges, and Ein Sehreya. Other works focused on children and adolescents and their contemporary challenges, such as Ab W Laken, Kan Ya Ma Kan, Ein Sehreya, and Tawabea. Overall, the report noted a clear shift toward reinforcing the rule of law and values of justice in storytelling.
The report emphasized that drama remains one of the country’s most powerful soft power tools, playing a vital role in shaping public awareness, strengthening national identity, supporting the economy, encouraging creative investment, and generating job opportunities. This underscores its importance as a fully integrated national industry with far-reaching impact.
It also noted that the season featured 41 drama series produced by Egyptian and Arab entities, reflecting the industry’s expansion and growing influence as a comprehensive economic sector that blends entertainment with social responsibility. Ramadan 2026 stood out for its strong awareness-driven narratives, the quality of most scripts, increased focus on mental health, and notable visual development in several expressive scenes.
The report further highlighted strong public engagement, the emergence of new talents such as Sameh Alaa, Maya Zaki, Amr Moussa, and Ahmed Adel Salama, as well as the return of veteran stars including Tarek El Desouky, Sahar Rami, Samah Anwar, Khaled Zaki, Fadia Abdel Ghany, and Kamal Abou Raya, among others.
