Tutankhamun’s Iconic Hunting Box.

A closer look at the very first artifact Howard Carter lifted from Tutankhamun’s tomb reveals a remarkable treasure: the richly decorated chest often called the “Hunting Box.”

The box is adorned with scenes celebrating the young pharaoh’s power. The long panels show Tutankhamun charging forward in his chariot as he overcomes his enemies, while the smaller sides portray him as a mighty sphinx crushing Egypt’s opponents beneath him.

Its arched lid introduces another vivid image, presenting the king engaged in a regal hunt across the wilderness.

An inscription on the chest honors his divine nature and unmatched might, calling him “the good god, son of Amun, the courageous one who has no equal.”

Beautifully crafted and symbolically rich, the piece embodies the prestige and visual language of Egyptian kingship.
