The production company has released the official teaser for El Sett, set to hit cinemas on December 10. The film stars Mona Zaki as the legendary icon Umm Kulthum.
El Sett will have its world premiere at the 22nd Marrakech International Film Festival, taking place from November 28 to December 6, 2025. The biographical drama marks a major new work by director Marwan Hamed, with Mona Zaki portraying the unforgettable Star of the East.
Mohamed Farrag joins Zaki in leading the cast. Scripted by acclaimed novelist Ahmed Mourad and directed by Marwan Hamed, the film brings together an ensemble of standout talents including Mohamed Farrag, Ahmed Khaled Saleh, Tamer Nabil, and Sayed Ragab. The project also features a remarkable lineup of guest stars: Asser Yassin, Ahmed Helmy, Amr Saad, Karim Abdelaziz, Nelly Karim, and Amina Khalil.
Speaking about the film, screenwriter Ahmed Mourad explained:
“El Sett is one of the toughest projects Marwan Hamed and I have worked on. It doesn’t rely on the usual elements that attract audiences. We’re portraying a real woman who lived among us, even as some people wonder what new we can offer — but every generation deserves its own way of seeing her.”
Mourad added that the team deliberately stripped the film of fantasy, graphics, and action, embracing a purely human story. “It’s a female-led film, and that’s incredibly challenging in Egyptian cinema today, where women’s stories have become rare. We’re presenting Umm Kulthum in a deeply human light that audiences have never seen before.”
