Khaled El Nabawy received the prestigious Faten Hamama Excellence Award at the Cairo International Film Festival, and he expressed heartfelt gratitude in a series of emotional remarks.
“Thank you to my beloved country Egypt, the Cairo International Film Festival, the Minister of Culture, and Hussein Fahmy,” Khaled said.
“In this moment of gratitude, I honor my late father and mother and dedicate this award to their precious souls,” he added.
“Thanks to my wife, Mona, who celebrates this award even more than I do, and to my children Karim, Nour, and Ziad El Nabawy—you are the most beautiful stories of my life,” Khaled shared.
He also paid tribute to his mentors and colleagues: “I am grateful to my teachers at the Academy of Arts and to colleagues Ahmed El Sakka, Laila Elwi, Yousra, Mahmoud Yassin, and Nour El Sherif.”
Acknowledging the legacy of Egyptian cinema, he continued: “Thank you to Faten Hamama and her generation for shaping cinema, and most importantly, to everyone who has inspired me.”
Khaled concluded with a nod to audiences and legends: “Thanks to the supporters of Egyptian cinema and the audience, and to the great inspiration Youssef Chahine, whose centenary this year marks his centenary so I am happy to receive this award in the same year of his centenary. And I am happy to receive this award on the same edition of the festival that honors veteran director Mohamed Abdelaziz who gave me my first role in cinema.”
The award not only celebrates Khaled El Nabawy’s exceptional career but also honors the enduring legacy of Egypt’s cinematic pioneers.
In his speech, El Nabawy was keen to offer advice to the new generation, saying, “Be different, work hard even if you feel alone, and don’t wait for recognition.”
Khaled El Nabawy showed solidarity with Palestine. “The Palestinian people have been writing their story in blood for 77 years. Long live Egypt and Egyptian cinema” he added
