Dr. Khaled El-Enany expressed profound gratitude and humility after being nominated by UNESCO’s Executive Board for the position of Director-General, describing the moment as both an honour and a great responsibility.
“My campaign has been one of listening,” El-Enany said, reflecting on a journey that took him to sixty-five countries and over 400 encounters. “I’ve met people whose ideas and hopes have shaped my vision — a vision written for and with them, rooted in their voices and grounded in shared aspirations.”
He extended heartfelt thanks to the Executive Board for its trust and saluted his fellow candidate “with the utmost respect,” emphasizing the spirit of cooperation that has defined his campaign.
As the final vote at the UNESCO General Conference approaches next month, El-Enany pledged to continue listening and working toward a more inclusive future. “If confirmed,” he affirmed, “I will use this collective trust as my guide to act with integrity, build bridges across regions, and truly make ‘UNESCO for the People’ reflect all the people.”
