On his official visit to Egypt, Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, accompanied by his wife and delegation, expressed his deep admiration for the grandeur of ancient Egyptian civilization and the genius behind the engineering and architecture of the pyramids, noting their remarkable scale.
At the Grand Egyptian Museum, they were warmly received by Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim, CEO of the museum authority, who presented them with a miniature replica of King Tutankhamun’s golden mask. The Singaporean President and his entourage toured the museum’s forecourt, main hall, grand staircase, and 12 exhibition galleries, which chronicle the history of ancient Egypt from the early dynasties to the Greco-Roman era.
They praised the museum’s exceptional collection of treasures, as well as the impressive design and presentation of the exhibits.
The visit continued at the Giza Plateau, where Dr. Ashraf Mohie El-Din, Director General of Giza Antiquities, guided them through the Great Pyramid and explained its history and construction, followed by a tour of the Sphinx and the panoramic viewpoint highlighting the area’s iconic landmarks.
The President and his delegation concluded their tour with commemorative photos at the pyramids, marking a memorable stop in their official trip to Egypt.
