The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has announced the closure of the Tutankhamun Hall at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir on October 20, as the final pieces of the boy king’s legendary collection are transferred to the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) ahead of its grand opening on November 1.

For the first time, more than 5,000 artifacts belonging to Tutankhamun will be displayed together in a dedicated gallery at GEM—offering visitors from Egypt and across the world a historic opportunity to witness the full splendor of the young pharaoh’s treasures in one place.

Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, confirmed that the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir will continue to receive visitors as normal, with only the Tutankhamun Hall affected by the closure during the packing and transfer process.

The Grand Egyptian Museum will temporarily close to the public on October 15 for final logistical preparations before reopening on November 4, 2025—coinciding with the 103rd anniversary of the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb.
