The preliminary rounds of the  Qur’an recitation competition kicked off on the morning of Saturday, August 16, with over 14,000 contestants from across Egypt’s governorates competing to showcase the finest voices in the recitation of the Holy Qur’an.

This comes as part of the Ministry of Awqaf commitment, in collaboration with United Media Services represented by Masr Qur’an Karim TV channel and its application to discovering new talents in the art of Qur’an recitation and chanting, while sustaining Egypt’s long-standing leadership in this sacred art—an art that has drawn ears, minds, and hearts from all around the world to the Egyptian school of recitation.

Dr. Osama Al-Azhari, Minister of Awqaf, is set to attend the opening day of the competition at the historic Amr Ibn Al-As Mosque in Cairo. The event will be broadcast on Al-Hayat, CBC, Al-Nas, and Misr Quran Karim channels, allowing audiences in Egypt and around the world to follow the contest and enjoy the beauty of Qur’an recitation.

Meanwhile, the judging panel has begun listening to participants, with the first committee featuring Sheikh Mahmoud El-Khesht, renowned reciter Sheikh Taha Al-No’mani, and Sheikh Youssef Halawa.
