CAIRO – 16 August 2025: The Netherlands has handed over to Egypt a collection of rare antiquities dating back to ancient Egyptian civilization, following confirmation that they had been smuggled out of the country illegally.
The Egyptian Embassy in The Hague received the artifacts from the Dutch National Museum of Antiquities as part of ongoing cooperation to combat the illicit trafficking of cultural property.

The recovered items reflect the artistic diversity and craftsmanship of ancient Egypt.
They include a variety of pottery artifacts—some featuring star-patterned decorations, others shaped in spherical forms, and one resembling a knife.
Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy expressed deep appreciation for the Dutch government's cooperation, describing the handover as a testament to the shared commitment to protecting human and cultural heritage.
