CAIRO – 28July 2017: ‘A Present from the Past’ movie screening by Darb 1718 will be hosted at Zawya Cinema on July 30 at 8 p.m.

’A Present from the Past’ was a graduation project from the High Cinema Institute and the first feature documentary written and directed by Kawthar Younis in 2015.

In this documentary, Kawthar tells her own story when she gave her father two tickets for Rome as a present for his 75th birthday to help him search for his old love Patrizia, with whom broke up 30 years ago while studying in Italy.

Most of the film scenes were filmed by a hidden camera which added reality to the movie, while Mokhtar Younis, the star of the film, didn’t know that his daughter is filming through the journey.

The film was screened at Ismailia International Festival for short movies and in Cairo Film Festival.

Kawthar is an Egyptian director who was born in 1993 in Cairo. She studied film directing at the High cinema Institute of Egypt. Her short project ’A story of Everyday’ won the first prize in the Civic Engagement Competition in the American University in Cairo 2011.

Darb 1718 hosts a monthly screening program curated by Zawya Cinema, which includes films by local filmmakers or films that shed light on local issues. Screenings are held the last Sunday of each month, and followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers, Darb1718 reported.
