Egypt’s Ministry of Culture has announced plans to erect a statue honoring the legacy of renowned heart surgeon Dr. Magdi Yacoub in Kit Kat Square, located in Imbaba.

The announcement came during a special ceremony celebrating Dr. Yacoub at the Small Hall of the Cairo Opera House.

The bronze statue will be placed in the Kit Kat Square, right next to the Heart Institute, which receives thousands of patients every day.

The artwork will be created by sculptor Dr. Essam Darwish, who expressed his pride in contributing to this tribute to a true national icon.

The statue will rise 6 meters high and be mounted on an 8-meter base.

It aims to capture Dr. Yacoub’s humanitarian spirit and his close bond with his students. It is expected to be completed within eight months.

A cooperation protocol has also been signed between architect Hamdy El Sattouhi, Assistant Minister of Culture for Cultural and Artistic Projects, and Mohamed Nour El Din, Secretary General of Giza Governorate, to carry out the project.
