Layaly Misr announced Cairokee’s new concert, Cairokee Empire, which will take place on June 28 at Cairo International Stadium.
Popular Egyptian band Cairokee released their song “Telk Qadeya” in support of the Palestinian cause.
“Telk Qadeya” was written by acclaimed Egyptian poet Mostafa Ibrahim.
Cairokee is one of the most successful bands in Egypt. They are well known for their blend of folk and indie rock music, as well as for lyrics that address social and political issues in the country.
The band was founded in 2003, but their hit song “Sout El-Horreya” (Voice of Freedom), released online in 2011, catapulted them to nationwide fame and placed them among Egypt’s leading music icons.
In March 2019, Cairokee released their album “Abna’a El-Batta El-Soda” (The Ugly Ducklings) on their official YouTube channel.
The album contains eight tracks:
• “Benkhaf” (We Are Afraid)
• “Kan Lak Ma’aya” (You Were with Me)
• “Ya Abyad Ya Eswed” (Either White or Black)
• “Hatlena Bel Ba’i Leban” (Buy Gum with the Change)
• “Yalla Nighanni” (Let’s Sing)
• “Ana El-Sigara” (I Am the Cigarette)
• “Ma’ad Sagheiran”
• “Ana El-Sout” (I Am the Voice)
All tracks were composed and arranged by Cairokee, except “Ma’ad Sagheiran”, which was arranged by Sary Hany. The lyrics were written by Amir Eid, except:
• “Benkhaf”, written by Mohamed Shafaei
• “Hatlena Bel Ba’i Leban”, by Atwa
• “Ma’ad Sagheiran”, by Dr. Ahmed Khaled Tawfiq
• “Ana El-Sout”, by Nour Abdallah
The Ugly Ducklings album explores a range of human emotions and challenges—such as anger, loss, and rebellion—offering messages of hope and solidarity to those who feel defeated, rejected, or discriminated against by others or by life itself.
With this release, Cairokee returned to the spotlight following the massive success of their previous album “No’ta Beida” (A White Point), which amassed over 170 million views on YouTube.
All songs in the new album were filmed as music videos in a single location, except for the track “El Dinosaur”.
The album remained true to Cairokee’s signature style while introducing bold new twists that, although unfamiliar to their audience at first, were ultimately well received.
