A proud milestone for Egyptian cinema! The film Happy Birthday, directed by rising talent Sara Gohar, has carved its name in history by becoming the first Egyptian production to win three awards at New York’s globally renowned Tribeca Film Festival.

With powerhouse performances by Nelly Karim and Hanan Motawie, the film took home:
🏆 Best International Feature
🏆 Best International Screenplay
🏆 Best Director – Sara Gohar

The story follows Doha, a young girl whose only wish is to attend a birthday party—an intimate narrative that boldly unpacks the deep-rooted issue of classism.

Director Sara Gohar shared heartfelt gratitude for the team who brought this five-year journey to life, from its early concept by Khaled and Sherine Diab to the screenplay co-written with Mohamed Diab.

Hollywood stars Oscar Isaac and Jamie Foxx also lent their support, with Foxx joining as a producer after being moved by the very first draft of the script.

Screened in Tribeca’s Official Competition, under the leadership of Robert De Niro himself, Happy Birthday is a cinematic triumph, setting a powerful precedent for the global rise of Egyptian storytelling.
