“We urge you to take immediate action to end the UK’s complicity in the atrocities in Gaza.”
Actors Benedict Cumberbatch, Riz Ahmed, singer Dua Lipa, and Annie Lennox are among 300 public figures who have signed an open letter calling on UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to end Britain’s role in the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza.
Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner-General of UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees), emphasized that the humanitarian aid reaching Gaza is far from adequate given the severity of the crisis.
In remarks reported by the Palestinian news agency WAFA on Saturday, Lazzarini stressed that famine in Gaza is preventable if there is genuine political determination. “What we are requesting is achievable,” he said, urging support for the United Nations in carrying out its mission to deliver vital assistance and uphold the dignity of those affected.
