Under the leadership of Mr. Sherif Saeed, the Egyptian Documentary Channel is proud to announce the premiere of its newest documentary film, A Lifetime of Poetry: The Life and Testimony of Ahmed Abdel Muti Hijazi. This compelling film offers an intimate and comprehensive portrait of Ahmed Abdel Muti Hijazi, a pioneering figure in the renewal of modern Arabic poetry. Written and executive produced by acclaimed novelist and screenwriter Dr. Safaa El Nagar, the documentary is directed by award-winning filmmaker Mohsen Abdelghany.

Ahmed Abdel Muti Hijazi is widely recognized as a central figure in the modern Arabic poetry movement. His seminal works, including City Without a Heart and Nothing Remains but Confession, masterfully intertwine personal introspection with social commentary. Hijazi’s influence extends beyond poetry to include literary criticism, journalism, and intellectual engagement with major cultural and political debates—cementing his legacy as a generational voice of conscience and creativity.

In this film, Dr. Safaa El Nagar draws on her literary depth to craft a rich narrative that weaves together Hijazi’s poetic contributions with his personal experiences, ideological struggles, and cultural influence.

Director Mohsen Abdelghany, known for his distinct visual language and award-winning work in both documentary and short fiction, brings his signature style to this project. His direction captures the emotional resonance of Hijazi’s work through a poetic cinematic approach, blending archival material, striking imagery, and insightful storytelling.

Filmed across Cairo and Paris, the documentary features exclusive interviews, rare archival footage, and powerful recitations of Hijazi’s poetry. It chronicles his journey from his formative years in Monufia in the 1930s, through his impactful career in journalism, to his academic tenure in France teaching Arabic literature—all set against the backdrop of key national and cultural events.

A Lifetime of Poetry is both a tribute to Hijazi’s literary legacy and a meditation on the timeless power of poetry to shape identity, provoke thought, and inspire generations.

The documentary premieres tonight at 10:00 PM on the Egyptian Documentary Channel. It is anticipated to resonate deeply with audiences in Egypt and France, offering an enriching cultural experience for poetry lovers and admirers of Arabic literature alike.
