The management board of Sharm El-Sheikh International Theater Festival for Youth (SITFY), chaired by director Mazen El-Gharabawy, announced the specifics of the playwriting award in its seventh edition, which bears the name of late Dr. Moustafa Selim within the proceedings of the eighth edition of the festival.

SITFY’s President, director Mazen El-Gharabawy pointed out that the main theme of the playwriting award -which bears the name of late Dr. Moustafa Selim- is poetic theater, in honor of his name. He was one of the most prominent theater poets in Egypt. We aim at granting opportunities for young people when it comes to poetic theater, especially in long scripts, short scripts, or monodrama.

Applicants can submit the scripts as of today, Wednesday, July 5 until September 5. The award secretariat won’t receive any scripts beyond that date, unless otherwise indicated.

Egyptian and Arab playwrights are welcome to apply for the competition. Additionally, Arabs residing in diaspora countries are welcome to apply. The winners of the three awards will be invited to attend the winner’s symposium within the proceedings of the eighth edition.

The competition includes certain terms and conditions, such as: contesters must not exceed (40) in November, 2023. It is preferable to submit scripts in Standard Arabic. A playwright must choose one branch only; playwrights will not be allowed to participate in more than one branch.

Dr. Engy El-Bestawy is the managing director of SITFY. The festival is held under the auspices of the Minister of Culture, Dr. Nevine Al-Kilani and South Sinai Governor, Major-General Khaled Fouda.
