CAIRO- 18 July 2017: Renowned Algerian singer Souad Massi will be performing at the RMC theater on the North Coast at Sea Hub on August 11.

Passionate about music at a young age, Massi has been influenced by El Hachemi Guerouabi’s songs, rock and American music. Her brother, a composer, encouraged her to enroll in the School of Fine Arts of Algeria where she learned to play the guitar for three years and later had learned about classical music, music theory, and Arab-Andalusian music, according to Massi’s official fan page.

Massi had her first stage experience in 1989 when she was accompanied by a group of Flamenco-Triana of Algiers. Massi was challenged by the circumstances in the country where it was difficult for artists to lead their own projects.

Despite her passion, Massi was discouraged by the lackluster Algerian music scene and was thinking of quitting; however she started working in an urban planning office while also composing music.

Massi produced her first music cassette in the Algerian market in 1998, reflecting the country’s music through a blend of English and French. The artist composes her own works and is now reaching many audiences worldwide with her folk pop music.
