Egypt's Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Ahmed Issa announced in a press conference at the Giza Plateau that a corridor has been uncovered inside Khufu Pyramid.

The newly discovered corridor is a nine metres long and 2.1 metres wide and was found at the northern face of the Khufu pyramid as part of a project that kick started in 2015.

Egyptian, French, US, German, Japanese and Canadian universities participated in this project with the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism & Antiquites as well as the Supreme Council of Antiquities under the supervision of an international archaeological committee headed by acclaimed Egyptologist Zahi Hawass.

“We found that the gabled blocks of the ceiling of the newly uncovered corridor distribute the weight down and to either side, away from the corridor. The role of the corridor most probably id similar to the role of the weight-relieving chambers above the horizontal passage and antechambers of the Meidum Pyramid" Hawass said.

The chevron area at the northern face of the Great Pyramid was examined using five non-destructive techniques  which are  the infrared, muography, georadar, urtlasound, and architectural and 3D simulation.

The results were published in famous international scientific journals such as Nature, based on the recommendation of the Archaeological Committee headed by Hawass.
