Egypt’s Aswan International Women Film Festival to honor Mijke De Jong

The  seventh edition of Aswan International Women Film Festival ( AIWFF) announced that it will honor the award-winning Dutch director, screenwriter and producer Mijke De Jong.

She presented a number of movies that tackled women and societal issues across 20 years.

 

De Jong has a number of important movies under her belt including Love Hurts [Hartverscheurend] (1993), Bluebird (2004), Layla M (2016) and her latest, Along the Way (2022).

 

Acclaimed scriptwriter Mohamed Abdelkhalek head of Aswan International Women Film Festival said that honoring De Jong is a celebration of a filmmaker whose choices show a delve into the unknown with a vision that used the complexities of filmmaking in a way that does not constitute a burden on this vision.

Abdelkhalek added that De Jong is a director who makes you feel while watching her films that you are sitting with her characters.

 

AIWFF head said that De Jong cinematic language is simple and doesn't need translation adding that honoring De Jong is consistent with the the festival vision to honor women filmmakers who are able to reach the highest levels of  feelings portrayal and make cinema full of hopes and pains not a commercial cinema.

 

It is worth mentioning that AIWFF will honor the golden age icon and the diva dubbed Egypt’s first star Nabila Ebeid and renowned TV presenter Dorria Sharaf Eldin during its seventh edition running from March 5-10, 2023.
