CAIRO – 13 November 2022: The 44th Cairo International Film Festival will kick off on November 13. It will run until November 22 at the Cairo Opera House.

Some artists and public figures will be honored during the festival.

The Cairo International Film Festival is one of the oldest festivals in the Arab world and Africa. It is unique in being the oldest internationally accredited festival in the Arab world, Africa and the Middle East.

The festival’s first edition was held in 1976. The idea of establishing the festival belongs to the pioneering  writer Kamal Al-Malakh, who was the head of the Film Writers and Critics Association, making it the first international film festival in the Arab world. Malakh remained president of the festival for seven consecutive years until 1983.

The Cairo International Film Festival started its activities 3 years after the October War, specifically on August 16, 1976, at the hands of the Egyptian Society of Film Writers and Film Critics headed by Kamal Al-Malakh.
