CAIRO – 6 November 2022: The breathtaking funerary mask of Tutankhamun was and continues to be an icon of ancient Egypt.

This highly-recognizable mask is made of gold, with inlays of turquoise, carnelian, lapis lazuli and semi-precious stones. 

 

 

 

 

While the front depicts Tutankhamun resembling Osiris the deity of the afterlife, the back is carved with a protective spell. 

 

 

 

 

It is, by far, one of Egypt’s most-beloved and prized treasures as well as one of the world’s best known masterpieces of art.
