Keen observers of flora and fauna, ancient Egyptians fashioned the ‘’nehet’’ sign to represent trees.

It was used for the words “iamet” (sycamore), “ished” (Persea) and willow trees.

Associated with the goddess Hathor, she was given the title ‘nebet-nehet’ meaning “Lady of the Sycamore”.

The word 'nehet' also gave the modern city of “Banha” its current name.
