'Sesh' sign of ancient Egypt - Min. of Tourism & Antiquities

CAIRO – 6 September 2022: This sign represents ancient Egyptian writing tools that consist of a papyrus pen, palettes with two colors, and a small vessel bound together by a rope.

 

 

 

 

One of the ink cakes is for red ink and the other is for black ink.

This sign appears regularly in the hands of scribes or on their shoulders in artistic representations. 

 

 

 

 

The most famous example of this is the wooden panels of the nobleman “Hesyra”, shown in the image.
