CAIRO – 22 August 2022: The Supreme Council of Antiquities' researchers and archaeologists completed the restoration work of the deity Amun-Ra's shrine, one of the seven chapels in the Temple of Seti I in Abydos, Sohag Governorate.

 

 

 

 

Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Mostafa Waziri explained that the restoration work witnessed at the Temple of Seti I and other temples and archaeological sites nationwide comes within the framework of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities’ plan to attract Egyptian and tourist visitors, and encourage the inbound cultural tourism. Waziri added that it is scheduled to restore all the chapels of the temple, as the restoration of the shrine of the deity Re-Hor- Achti has recently begun.

For his part, Professor Mohamed Abdel Badi, head of the Central Administration of Upper Egypt Antiquities, explained that the shrine of the deity Amun-Ra is one of the seven chapels in the Temple of Seti I, and it is a chapel dedicated to the worshipers of the deity Amun-Ra. The walls of the cabin bear a number of scenes representing the journey of the sacred boat to the other world and some religious rituals and offerings to the deity Amun-Ra.

 

 

 

 

Director General of the Restoration of Upper Egypt Antiquities Saadi Zaki indicated that the restoration work of the shrine of Amun-Ra took about 3 months and included removing dirt and soot by mechanical cleaning and using various brushes to remove dust. This was followed with chemical cleaning to remove soot from the roof and walls of the cabin, and completing the missing parts of the walls and ceiling, strengthening the colors, and the isolation stage.
