CAIRO – 11 August 2022: Archaeologists reburied the ruins of a sprawling ancient Roman villa uncovered in the United Kingdom, just one year after its discovery was announced.

Historic England, a government environmental organization working in Britain, hopes the move will protect the 'first of its kind' archaeological site for future generations, according to BBC News.

This discovery delighted the experts who confirmed its historical significance. “These archaeological remains are a wonderful find and are much more than we dreamed of discovering at this site. It really gives us a better knowledge and understanding of Roman Britain," Keith Emrick, inspector of antiquities for Historic England, said in a statement last year.

Archaeologists discovered the ruins in Scarborough, England in 2021 when investigating land earmarked for housing development. The found structures are likely made for the "high-class." Archaeologists consider them to be close to luxury residences or a religious site, while the Guardian reported last year that the complex included a luxury bathroom.

The villa had a circular center that was probably a tower, according to the BBC, with corridors leading to many rooms and outbuildings.
