Egypt’s star Amir El Masry portrays young Mohamed Al-Fayed in “The Crown”

Egyptian international star Amir El Masry continues his  path to stardom with his new role in the fifth season of the international TV drama, “The Crown” where he plays the role of the Egyptian businessman, Mohamed Al-Fayed at an early age. The shooting of the TV drama will be wrapped up soon. “The Crown” is considered one of the best TV series in the history of drama, as it reaped 138 awards, including 21 Primetime Emmy Awards.
 
It is also rated 8.6 on IMDb, and also ranked #101 in the list of the audience’s top 250 TV seriesThe Crown follows the political rivalries and romance of Queen Elizabeth II's reign and the events that shaped the second half of the twentieth century.

 

Currently, Amir El-Masry is shooting his scenes in the new TV series Momken Nerga’, based on the famous TV series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend which rated 7.8 on IMDb. Alongside Amir El-MasryMomken Nerga’ stars Mariam El Khosht and Adam Elsharkawy. The new TV series is written by Amr Medhat and directed by Joe Bou Eid.

 

Most recently, Amir El-Masry’s film Limbo was released in French theatres. The film competed within the Official Competition at the Cannes Film Festival. Limbo toured international film festivals and received several awards and nominations, most importantly; the Best Director and Best Writer awards to Ben Sharrock and the Best Actor award to Amir El-Masry at the BAFTA Scotland Awards. In addition, the film reaped three awards at the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) including the FIPRESCI Prize and the Golden Pyramid for Best Film. In 2021, Limbo was nominated for the Outstanding British Film of the Year award at the BAFTA Film Awards.

 

As an Egyptian/international star, Amir El-Masry is keen on his social role in the society. Therefore, he was selected as an ambassador for the United Nations international initiative, Shabab Balad, in cooperation with the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), which was launched for the first time as part of the activities of the fourth edition of the World Youth Forum. Egypt is the first country in the Middle East region in which this initiative is launched.

 

In Ramadan season, 2022, star Amir El-Masry took part in the TV drama The Choice 3: The Decision, which is considered as the most successful TV series within the Ramadan race. He also competed in the Egyptian box office with the film Ritsa. Currently, Amir El-Masry is waiting for the release of the series Rogue Heroes soon in the UK.

 

On the international level, Amir El-Masry was selected by The Playlist website within its list for the best acting performance for the film Limbo in 2021. The most famous British critic Peter Bradshaw chose El-Masry in his list of the best actors this year, in an article he published on The Guardian’s website. He also participated as a jury member for the best Arab film in the 43rdedition of the Cairo International Film Festival.

Born in Cairo and raised in London, Amir El-Masry is an Egyptian-British award-winning actor who worked with notablestars such as Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie, Olivia Colman, and Woody Harrelson. El-Masry has had leading roles in successful Egyptian films; Ramadan Mabrouk Abul-Alamein Hamouda, and El-Talatah Yishtaghaloonha.

His breakout role came in early 2016 in the critically acclaimed mini-series The Night Manager, alongside Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie and Olivia Colman. In 2017, El-Masry took part in Woody Harrelson’s American film Lost in London, and the critically acclaimed BAFTA nominated mini-series The State. Later on, Amir portrayed the character of Ibrahim in the TV series Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, which was nominated for three Primetime Emmys awards. He also took part in the BAFTA TV Award nominated series, Informer.

Among his most prominent works, is the lead role in The Arabian Warrior film, which is the first American/Saudi feature-length film. His participation in Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker is one of his most prominent cinematic steps. Currently, Amir El-Masry’s latest series Industry is airing on HBO platform. At the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF), El-Masry competed with his film Limbo and received three awards, including the Golden Pyramid for Best Film Award. In addition, Limbo took part in the Cannes Film Festival and won the TCM Youth Jury Award at the San Sebastian Film Festival.
