CAIRO – 5 June 2022: This week, Bonhams Auction House is putting a rare letter from George Washington on sale.

 

 

 

 

Washington was the first president of the United States and commander-in-chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. The letter is up for sale at a global auction at a price ranging from $20,000 to $30,000.

 

 

 

 

The auction house revealed that the rare letter from President George Washington (1732-1799) was signed and sent to Richard Gridley, the first chief engineer of the United States Army. This letter was related to the construction of fortifications in Boston in 1776.

 

 

 

 

Boston is the capital of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the United States, and it is the 21st most populous city in the United States. The city covers an area of 48.4 square miles with an estimated population of 692,600 in 2019. This also makes it the most populous city in New England. It is the county seat of Suffolk County.
